A source has stated that President Muhammadu Buhari has sent his Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on National Assembly Matters Ita Enang to beg the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senators to ensure that the ministerial nominees “scale through” the Senate’s confirmation process.
The Senate committee to screen the ministerial nominees will be chaired by Senator Samuel “Samdaddy” Anyanwu (PDP Imo East) and our source has confirmed that the PDP senators are gearing up for what would be “the toughest” ministerial confirmation hearings that the National Assembly has ever seen in Nigerian history.
This is because one party no longer dominates the National Assembly, the president’s anti-corruption rhetoric has made several senators concerned that they could face prosecution and there are factions within the ruling All Progressives Congress ranks in the Senate.
Senators are planning to use the hearings to cut deals with the presidency to ensure that they escape prosecution.
