There are unconfirmed reports that Abubakar Audu, who is the likely winner of the Kogi State governorship (s)election held yesterday, has died from cardiac arrest.
Audu, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is reported to have defeated the incumbent Idris Wada of the Peoples Democratic Party.
In this situation, with the death of a governor-elect, the Nigerian Constitution states in Part 2 Section 181:(1) If a person duly elected as Governor dies before taking and subscribing the Oath of Allegiance and oath of office, or is unable for any reason whatsoever to be sworn in, the person elected with him as Deputy governor shall be sworn in as Governor and he shall nominate a new Deputy-Governor who shall be appointed by the Governor with the approval of a simple majority of the House of Assembly of the State.

So the new governor-elect of Kogi State is James Faleke, Audu’s running mate.
