What the APC means by “change”

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) campaigned on a platform of “change”. They claimed that Nigeria needed “change” from the corruption of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that “destroyed” the country for 16 years.

When Stella Oduah was aviation minister under the last PDP government she was embroiled in a scandal over the purchase of bullet-proof BMWs. The APC’s Dino Melaye, who then called himself an anti-corruption activist tweeted: “In a country where ASSU [Academic Staff Union of Universities] is on strike, poverty every where, a minister has the effrontery to buy 2 bullet proof cars with tax payers money, ha..”

Melaye is now a senator representing Kogi West and his position on Stella Oduah and corruption has “changed”.

He is now standing shoulder to shoulder with Oduah, now the PDP senator representing Anambra North, alongside about 30 other APC and PDP senators, in support of Senate President Bukola Saraki, who is being tried by the Code of Conduct Tribunal for a false declaration of assets.

Saraki, now of the APC “changed” from being a two-term PDP governor.

Oduah is also being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the purchase of those BMWs for $800,000 each. That was a lot of “change” for her. But possibly “small change” for the likes of Saraki.

While nothing has “changed” for the majority of Nigerians, these politricksters change parties, change positions, change alliances, while filling their bank accounts with a lot of “change”.

They are truly agents of “change”.
