Atiku tells the BBC that the Nigerian army needs a “younger generation of leadership”

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) told the BBC that the problem of the Nigerian army in its attempt to defeat Boko Haram is “fatigued leadership”. He said the same people were in charge for a long time and “no new ideas” were coming in.

This is very quite ironic coming from a 72 year old running for president for the fifth time and who was vice president from 1999 to 2007.

Many Nigerians want Atiku’s generation to give way to a younger crop of leadership. But it appears that Atiku would only entertain this idea with the army and can’t see how recycling the same people leads to “fatigued leadership” in politics as well.
